Full disclosure – I don’t really know if this is a Gnome or not. She’s wearing shoes, so I’m assuming she’s not a halfling. I don’t think she’s a dwarf… So I’m guessing she’s a Gnome so that’s what I’m going with. I think I painted Lyssa toward the end of my initial painting of Descent figures. She’s got layered skintones, leather, and cloth. While I didn’t even attempt facial details on her, it looks like I was just starting to get better. Grey Ker is a rogue who keeps a grappling hook handy because he’s always up for a good climb… If I remember correctly, this is one of the early models on which I used a wash (as is evidenced by his smudgy cloak). At the time, I was super proud of how cleanly I was able to pick out the potion bottles on his belt. Considering the size of the model and the brush I was using, I’m actually still kind of impressed I was able to pick them out without much slopping of paint! Here’s another single-brush, early-hobby paint job. I initially had some old-school mini-painting book, and one of the old styles of doing “shadows” before washes were really popular was to prime the mini in black, and then paint… but not the WHOLE way into the seams, leaving the primer as the shadow. It’s a kind of comic-book outline-looking style when done well (and looks like junk when done poorly, like this one is).
