This incense & mace wielding cleric was painted for @LynnKirchner since she happened to be the 1000th person to follow my twitter account! Since she was the 1000th exactly, and expressed interest in a custom-painted mini, I asked her what she’d like to have for a character and she requested a tough female cleric. This is what I sent to her… I intend (at some point) to do a re-tweet giveaway, so that everyone following me will have a chance at a free custom-painted mini… Follow me if you want a shot at it!Read More →

Adventurer – Elf Warrior Female #2

Despite my complaints about the lack of definition in the facial features of the WizKids minis, I am actually very pleased with how they use the clear plastic for things like fire and spell effects! The torch fire came out looking very nice on this model, using a thin glossy glaze for each color other than the black at the top. This model’s eyes did not come out nearly as wonky as the previous one… She appears to be looking in the correct direction, and doesn’t look startled or straight up terrified.Read More →

While I really like the WizKids models, generally… I’m finding that for the human/demi-human figures the features – particularly the facial features – are not very well defined, or they’re obscured from the primer. For example, this Elf (or Half-Elf) figther has almost no nose, the mouth was basically just a cut in the plastic and was obscured, and the eyes were all but flat. I’m running into this for most of the human-like models. So, once I finish the ones I have, I will probably look for another brand of miniature for my Human/Demi-Human figures. But their monsters are GREAT, and the fact thatRead More →

Here together are the four female hero miniatures I painted up to try my hand a doing skin tones again. My skills are (slowly) getting back up to par. Still need to do more skin work, but the faces aren’t super terrifying so that’s something!Read More →

Another halfling hero! I’m not convinced this isn’t the same character as the last one, just in another pose. But I painted her differently, and hopefully it makes her different enough to be distinct. Still not great on the skin outcome, but I’m happier with how her face came out!Read More →

Adventurer – Gnome Female

Full disclosure – I don’t really know if this is a Gnome or not. She’s wearing shoes, so I’m assuming she’s not a halfling. I don’t think she’s a dwarf… So I’m guessing she’s a Gnome so that’s what I’m going with. She could be a Wizard, Sorceress, Thief (er, sorry, “Rogue” in the current nomenclature), Warlock, or even a fighter, ranger or druid. It’s a solid model with lots of possibilities!Read More →

I was playing with the skintones on this set of adventurers. Unfortunately, this halfling’s skin came out a little too uneven for my liking. Also, brow hair is hard to do convincingly. From the tabletop / arm’s reach range, she looks fine… And I do really like this sculpt. So, done is beautiful, right? I’ll get human/halfling/elf/dwarf flesh right again soon. Hopefully.Read More →

I forgot how hard human(ish) faces are! Her eyes aren’t TOO wonky, but her facial skin is blotchy. I’m not too dissatisfied with it though. Also, this one made me remember why I switched from Dwarfs from Skaven for Warhammer Fantasy… SO MUCH METAL. Little spots of metal are fine & easy, but it separates, clots, and dries so fast (even with slow-dry medium) that it’s a pain in the ass to do a lot of it at once.Read More →

Descent: Minotaur

Way back, when I first started painting I took a small detour from the Games Workshop Dwarfs and started painting some miniatures from the 1st edition version of Descent: Journeys in the Dark. This was mostly to take a break from the monotony of continually painting the gold and metal bits of the Dwarf models. I wasn’t terribly sophisticated in my painting techniques since, at the time, I really only had maybe a dozen fully painted models under my belt at the time. But having said that, I was always very happy with how this model turned out and it was one of the reasonsRead More →

D&D – Thalindari “Thal” of the Hierydyl Clan

Thalindari of the Hierydyl Clan, known to his mixed company of companions as “Thal”, grew up in the village of Felvinhir. A Vyalian hamlet of about 300 elves built along the Rugalov river, the houses are built in the trees for protection against the goblins of Dymrak forest, who raid across the river. Higher-society folks in Felvinhir live higher among the trees, whereas lower-caste live closer to the ground. Thal studied herbology and medicine, and was practicing to become a healer. Unfortunately, he made the impolitic mistake of bluntly correcting a more senior, higher-caste healer in the village during a delicate healing. Thal was not exiled, per se,Read More →
